Scams and unauthorized copies...
WARNING: There are still a number of sources for completely unauthorized (counterfeit) copies of Zenair aircraft in Europe. These purveyors offer low-cost ready-to-fly versions of Zenair's Zodiac and STOL designs. In many cases, the aircraft are offered with no official Zenair documentation; buyers are told that they will need to buy plans directly from Zenair in order to receive a serial number, and to use this serial number to register the copy with local authorities. This illegal practice is a fraudulent use of Zenair's copyrighted plans and serial numbers. Furthermore, these aircraft are often modified and use sub-standard materials. Claiming such copies as "Zenairs" typically voids all insurance coverage.
Be aware of this practice when considering new, but also "second-hand" ready-to-fly Zenair ULMs.
